Behind The Creatures That Haunted Gulf is an interactive workshop exploring the folklore of the UAE and Gulf region, led by mixed-media artist and author Jalal Luqman. Attendees will discover the origins and meanings behind legendary creatures such as Umm Al Duwais, Baba Daryah, Khattaf Raffay, and Hamarat Al Qayla, and examine how these stories shaped local culture and imagination.
Key points include uncovering the fears and beliefs that inspired these mythical beings, sharing and comparing different versions of the tales across generations, and collaborating to invent a new creature for today’s world. By the end of this workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Gulf folklore and practical inspiration for their own creative storytelling.
