Gulf Legends Unleashed
Workshop · Day 1 · Thu 22 October 2026, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm · Aljada, Sharjah
Gulf Legends Unleashed is an interactive workshop exploring the creatures and stories of UAE and Gulf folklore, led by mixed-media artist and author Jalal Luqman. Attendees will discover how figures like Umm Al Duwais, Baba Daryah, Khattaf Raffay, and Hamarat Al Qayla shaped local imaginations and reflected the fears and beliefs of their communities.
Key points include examining the origins and purposes of regional folklore creatures, sharing and comparing different versions of these stories across generations, and collaborating to invent a new creature for today’s world. By the end of this workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Gulf folklore and hands-on experience in creative world-building, with no prior artistic or writing experience required.
