The Special Cartooning & Character Workshop explores how professional cartoonists create memorable, personality-driven characters. Led by Guy Gilchrist—cartoonist, illustrator, author, and "Jim Henson's Cartoonist"—the session draws on his experience with The Muppets, Muppet Babies, and Fraggle Rock to reveal the essentials of character design for comics, animation, and children's books.
Key points include using shapes, proportions, and expressions to define characters, hands-on drawing exercises that show how small visual choices impact design, and practical feedback on storytelling, comedy, and presentation. By the end of this workshop, attendees will have developed their own original character and gained insights into both the creative and professional sides of cartooning.
